What is an IBCLC?
An IBCLC is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. It is the highest standing that a lactation consultant can have. IBCLCs must have 500-1000 hours of breastfeeding assistance experience along with 95+ hours of academic classes. The designation is conferred after an international examination. IBCLCs assist women and their families with breastfeeding concerns. They can provide help prenatally, at the newborn stage, with older babies and at weaning.
Are these services covered under OHIP?
While OHIP does cover care by a lactation consultant in the hospital it does NOT cover private services. However, some employment health care plans do cover lactation consultants or have allowances for alternative therapies. It’s a good idea to check your plan to see if you have coverage. Prices are available on a sliding scale for families in need.
Can I get a gift certificate?
